Compare Engin’s VoIP Ignition 69 Broadband Plan: Review Engin’s Plans For Cost, Speed and Data Allowance

Posted February 3rd, 2012 and last modified April 10th, 2012

The Engin VoIP Ignition 69 broadband plan is an ADSL2+ speed broadband plan that delivers 20 GB of data download and the set up fee is waived if you accept a 24 month contract. The monthly cost is $69.00. As with all other Engin broadband plans the Ignition 69 has a dedicated voice channel that guarantees you the best and highest standard VoIP call quality even when you have exceeded your data usage for the month and your connection speed has been shaped to 64kbps. Another advantage you receive is that all your VoIP calls are exempt from any data usage charges. Only data downloads use up any of your data quota of 20 GB as all up-loads are un-metered. This is where the ability to purchase afterburners comes in. Engin have afterburners available that you can purchase to avoid the inconvenience of having your download speed cut to 64kbps. For just $5 you can purchase an extra 2GB of data usage. You will also have a static IP address at all times and you will be able to access technical support from Engin’s Sydney headquarters from Monday through to Saturday.

The Benefits Are Generous

The Engin Ignition broadband plans bundle your home phone service in with your internet connection and deliver a number of generous benefits such as the following:

  • Unlimited local phone calls to anywhere in Australia.
  • Just the one monthly bill that covers both your home phone and your broadband costs.
  • All international calls are available for a 20 cent connection fee.
  • No charges are made if you want to upgrade your plan but a fee of $40 can be charged if you want to downgrade it and only one plan change can be made each month.

A not so generous fee of $480 is charged if you wish to terminate the arrangement at any time within the 24 month contract period. This fee becomes payable after the initial 10 days of taking up the contract has expired. The amount you will actually be charged will be based on a pro-rated calculation of the number of months remaining in your contract. Engin broadband is not available in Tasmania and only in the major cities in all other states and territories.

Engin is Australia’s Largest VoIP Provider

Engin is partly owned by the Seven television network and is the largest VoIP provider in the country with more than 60,000 customers. With the coming of fibre optics it can be expected to gain even more customers as it becomes an even more reliable and cost effective way to communicate with your family and friends as well as for business purposes. While we have witnessed the success of Engin with their offering of voice calls over the internet it will only be a matter of time before a video accompaniment develops into a standard feature of communication.

Engin oneHUB Wireless Router

The Engin oneHUB wireless router is an ADSL2+ modem and telephony apparatus all rolled into the one unit. It can be purchased for $99 when you sign up for an Engin VoIP ADSL2+ plan. However it will also work quite well with any other ISP who offer ADSL2+ plans. It comes pre-configured and it also has clear instructions attached that are handy if you need to change the settings. If you use it with an Engine broadband plan you won’t need to worry with any configuration. All you will need to do is to connect the appropriate cables. To make matters even better you will find that wireless networking has never been easier because the SSID and password are clearly printed on the side. Engin has made the set up procedure as simple as could be and you will be up browsing the web in a matter of minutes.

A Phone in Every Room

The Engin oneHUB wireless router comes with a DECT cordless phone and a built in base station. You can use it with up to four other DECT phones meaning you can make and receive calls from anywhere in the house. It also contains a PSTN port that enables you to still make and receive calls from your regular home landline, also through your DECT cordless phone. It is a convenient telephony apparatus to be mainly used with an Engin VoIP ADSL2+ account. Its purpose is to allow you to use your regular land line services by only having to use the one cordless handset.

Engin plans are all at ADSL2+ speeds and before shaping occurs you are able to access an afterburner to boost you data quota by another 2GB. This means you will not be stuck in the middle of something important with a painlessly slow speed. The costs are extremely competitive and the benefit of VoIP can cut your phone bills by hundreds of dollars a year.
