Engin My Choice 150 GB Extreme Broadband Plan Compare Engin’s VoIP Broadband Plans for Price, Data Allowance and Speed

Posted February 2nd, 2012

Engin has the distinction of not only being one of Australia’s leading providers of broadband and telephone services, but it is also the first in the country to provide Voice Over Internet Protocol services to small businesses and residential users.

Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP makes and receives calls over the broadband Internet connection lines instead of the traditional telephone lines. Engin provides a dedicated voice channel for VoIP calls, allowing you to experience the clearest and best voice quality there is.

Engin offers a wide range of broadband and VoIP bundles that you can choose from that can fit your specific needs. Engin’s MyChoice offer five different plans: Lite, Standard, Ultra, Premium and Extreme. All these plans offer standard ADSL2+ speeds of 24 Mbit/s for download and 1.3 Mbit/s for uploads.

Engin MyChoice Extreme VoIP Broadband Plan

Engin’s MyChoice Extreme VoIP Broadband Plan offers a total of 190 GB data quota. This plan is $99.95 per month and can be taken out on a month to month contract, or with a 24 month term.

Only downloads are counted against the monthly data quota of 190 GB. If you go beyond that, your connection is shaped to 256 kbps until your subscription’s data quota is refreshed for the next month.

What’s great about Engin is that they offer you the option to purchase a top-up for your connection once it’s shaped. Afterburners allow you to go back to using the premium ASDL2+ speeds without having to wait for the next month. Afterburners come in 1 GB, 2 GB and 3 GB allocations, priced at $5, $10 and $15 respectively. These boosters can also be purchased even if you have not used up all of your data quota, but want to keep it from running out.

MyChoice Extreme Broadband Plan Pricing

Engin offers MyChoice packages in two contract plans. The first plan is ideal for those who do not want to be tied down to a plan that requires a minimum number of months as a contract. The month to month plan only requires you to pay for the month you use. This plan is at $99.95 per month, and requires an upfront setup fee of $149. This plan does not include any bonuses.

The second plan is great for those who are interested in keeping a long term contract, specifically for 24 months. However, note that a cancellation of the service before the 24 month contract is done merits a $15 disconnection fee for each month remaining. The 24 month contract comes with a bonus modem/router and a Voice Box.

Engin’s Voice Box is a device that is used to change analogue phone signals to digital signals to work with the broadband connection for VoIP calls. The Voice Box works as a connection between your regular phone line and your modem/router. The Voice Box is also known as an Analogue Telephone Adaptor, or ATA.

Voice Over Internet Protocol Plans

Engin has a variety of VoIP plans that you can choose to link with your Extreme Broadband connection. The MyChoice Extreme plan already includes the National VoIP plan by default, which lets you make local and national calls to Australian numbers. The following plans are your VoIP choices:

  • Home + VoIP plan allows you to make local and national calls. Mobile calls to Australian numbers are 22c per minute. The Home + plan includes international calls to 8 countries, while you can call 13 other countries at a charge of 20c per call. This plan is an additional $5 per month on your Extreme bill.
  • Mobile + has 200 calls or 400 minutes of calls to Australian mobile numbers. It has no included calls to local and national numbers, but charges them at 10c per call. Mobile calls made beyond the included number have a charge of 27c per call, while international calls are at 1.9c each minute. Mobile + calls are also at $5 each month.
  • Max + provides 600 minutes of calls to Australian local, national and mobile numbers. International calls can be made to 100 countries on standard telephone lines. Calls beyond the 600 minute allowance are 15c for local and national calls, 27c each minute for mobile and 1.9c per minute for international.
  • Unlimited is the best choice for busy people. The unlimited calls apply to all local, national and mobile calls to Australian numbers. You can make international calls to the following countries as part of your plan: Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain (excluding the Canary Islands), UK, USA, China, India, New Zealand, Italy, Vietnam, Philippines and South Africa.

VoIP calls on Engin are not counted against your monthly data quota.
