Engin My Choice 30 GB Standard VoIP Broadband Plan Compare Engin’s My Choice VoIP Plans For Cost, Speed and Data Allowance
Engin is Australia’s leading provider of broadband telephone services. They are also one of the country’s earliest providers of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to small businesses and residential users.
Engin offers a versatile plan for both your broadband and VoIP needs. Called MyChoice, it gives you the ability to customise your broadband and voice services, combining them to suit your level of usage. MyChoice plans can also work with your existing landline, or you can choose to get only the broadband service to save on the expenses.
Engin MyChoice 30 GB Standard VoIP Broadband Plan
Engin’s standard VoIP Broadband Plan offers a total of 40 GB monthly allowance, divided into 20 GB for both peak and off-peak times. The standard plan is available on a month to month basis, or through a 24 month contract. Both contracts offer the same ADSL2+ download speeds, and both are shaped to 256 kbps if the data allowance speed has been exceeded. The data quota will be refreshed in the next month. The MyChoice Standard plan only measures downloads against the monthly data allocation.
If your account has been shaped and you are not comfortable with the 256 kbps speed limit, Engin offers the options to purchase afterburners to top-up your monthly data allocation. Afterburners are available in 1 GB, 2 GB and 3 GB allocations, costing $5, $10 and $15 respectively. These boosters can also be purchased if you are still within your monthly quota, but want to avoid exceeding it.
MyChoice peak periods are from 8 am to 12 am AEST/AEDT, while off-peak periods are from 12 am to 8 am AEST/AEDT.
Pricing of Engin MyChoice Standard 30 GB Plan
Engin offers MyChoice Standard as a month to month contract or as a 24 month lockdown contract. Here is a rundown of the costs you incur with either plan:
- Month to month. You only pay for what you use and are under no obligation to maintain a minimum number of months under the contract. However, there is a setup fee of $149 which needs to be paid up front. The month to month contract does not come with a bonus modem/router or Voicebox.
- The 24 month contract. You are required to stay under contract for 24 months. Cancelling the contract anytime before that will entail a disconnection fee of $15 for each month remaining of your minimum term. The setup fee is the cheaper $49, and the contract comes with a bonus 4-port modem/router and Voicebox.
Both contracts under the Standard VoIP Broadband Plan have a monthly fee of $64.95, and each are allocated one static IP address.
VoIP Plans
MyChoice Broadband Plan offers a wide range of VoIP plans that you can combine with your broadband service. MyChoice Standard Broadband already comes with the National VoIP plan, where you can make calls to local and national numbers at no extra cost. Mobile calls cost 22c per minute, and international calls charges begin at 1.9c per minute, depending on the country.
You can avail of other VoIP plans that offer a wider range of calls not just to local and national numbers, but also to mobile and international contacts:
- Home +. Includes calls to local and national numbers. Mobile calls cost 22c per minute. This plan includes international calls to eight countries, while 20c per call is charged when you call a specified list of 13 other countries. Home + calls have a monthly fee of $5.
- Mobile +. Offers included calls for the first 200, or for 400 minutes to mobile numbers, after which included calls will be charged at 27c per minute. Local and national calls are 10c per call, while international calls are charged at 1.9c per minute. Mobile + is likewise charged $5 per month.
- Max. Provides 60 minutes of calls to local, national, Australian mobile and international numbers. When the included calls have been exceeded, local and national calls are charged 15c per call; mobile calls at 27c per call and international numbers at 1.9c per minute. Max has a monthly fee of $15.
- Unlimited. Offers unlimited calls for local, national and mobile numbers. International calls are covered to up to 15 countries to standard landlines only.
The great thing about Engin’s MyChoice VoIP plans is that calls do not count against your broadband monthly quota even though you are technically using the same line. There is a dedicated voice channel for your VoIP calls, giving them the highest call quality for very clear and stable conversations. This applies even if your connection is shaped.
