Engin My Choice 80 GB Premium Broadband Plan Compare Engin’s VoIP Broadband Plans for Price, Data Allowance and Speed

Posted February 3rd, 2012

Engin is one of Australia’s leading providers of broadband and telephone services, and is one of the country’s first providers of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. VoIP allows customers to make and receive phone calls through their Internet connection rather than the traditional telephone lines. VoIP could initially only be afforded by businesses and corporations, but thanks to Engin, the technology is now available to small businesses and residential users.

Engin offers versatile broadband and VoIP bundles that can be tailored to fit your VoIP and broadband needs. Five MyChoice bundles are available: Lite, Standard, Ultra, Premium and Extreme. These packages all offer standard ADSL2+ speeds at 24 Mbit per second for downloads and 1.3 Mbit per second for uploads.

Engin MyChoice Premium VoIP Broadband Plan

The Engin MyChoice Premium VoIP Broadband Plan offers a total of 180 GB of monthly data allowance at $84.95 per month. The data quota is divided into 80 GB each for peak hours and off-peak hours. MyChoice peak times are 8 am to 12 am AEST/AEDT. Off-peak times are 12 am to 8 am AEST/AEDT. The Premium VoIP broadband plan can used on a month to month basis, or for a longer term of 24 months.

Engin only counts downloads against your allocated monthly data quota, and if you go beyond your download limit that will shape your connection speed down to 256 kbps until it is renewed in the next month.

To be able to get back to ADSL2+ speeds without waiting for data quota renewal, afterburners can be purchased to top-up your speed. Engin’s available allocations are at 1 GB, 2 GB and 3 GB which cost $5, $10 and $15 respectively. These boosters can also be purchased even if you haven’t used up your monthly data quota but would like to make sure you do not run out of data.

MyChoice Premium Pricing

Engin MyChoice comes in two contract plans that you can choose from to suit your usage needs. With the month to month contract, you only pay for each month as it comes along and there is no minimum number of months needed to maintain the service. There is an upfront installation fee of $149. This contract does not come with any bonuses, such as a modem/router or Voice Box.

The 24 month in the next contract option is the minimum required months needed for maintenance. Cancellation at any time before the 24 month period is up will merit a disconnection charge of $15 per month remaining. An upfront installation fee of $49 is required. The contract comes with a bonus modem/router and Voice Box.

The Voice Box is a device used to convert analogue phone signals to digital signals so it can use the broadband connection for VoIP calls. Just plug in your regular phone to the Voice Box, and plug in the Voice Box to the modem/router. The Voice Box is known as an Analogue Telephone Adaptor, or ATA.

Voice Over Internet Protocol Plans

Engin offers various VoIP plans that can be easily customised to go with your Premium broadband plan. By default, MyChoice Premium comes with the National VoIP plan that gives you the freedom to make calls to local and national numbers across Australia. However, you can take your choice of any of the following VoIP plans:

  • Home + plan includes calls to local and national landline numbers. Mobile calls are charged at 22c each minute. International calls can be made to 8 countries, while calls to thirteen other countries are charged at 20c per call. The Home + plan can be availed at an additional $5 fee per month.
  • Mobile + includes 200 calls or 400 minutes of calls to mobile numbers in Australia. Local and national calls to standard landline numbers at 10c per call. Calls made after the quota has been used are charged at 27c each. International calls get charged 1.9c every minute. Mobile + is at $5 per month.
  • Max + provides 600 minutes of calls to local, national and Australian mobile numbers, as well as to over 100 countries. After the included calls have been used up, the next calls are at 15c for local and national calls; mobile calls are charged at 27c per minute, and international calls for 1.9c each minute.
  • Unlimited calls provide the best option for anyone who requires plenty of calls, namely for those who run small businesses. Local, national and mobile calls to Australian numbers are unlimited. Included international calls can be made to the following countries: Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain (excluding the Canary Islands), UK, USA, China, India, New Zealand, Italy, Vietnam, Philippines and South Africa.

Engin’s VoIP calls do not count against your broadband monthly data quota as they provide a dedicated voice channel that gives the best quality call you can get. If you have any questions about your account or service, Engin’s Sydney-based support group can be contacted from Monday to Saturday.
Engin enjoys a solid reputation as Australia’s premier provider of broadband and VoIP services. You can try it for yourself by signing up for a free 30-day trial and see how good the Engin MyChoice Premium plan is.
